Peppol Directory: check recipient and look up ID
Many companies are unsure whether their customers are ready for Peppol. You can check this in a matter of seconds via the public Peppol Directory. D Soft is a certified Peppol Access Point & SMP and will guide you through the registration and lookup process.
What is the directory?
The Peppol Directory is a search tool that displays all registered participants. You can see who is connected, which document types (e.g., Invoice, Credit Note) they support, and which Peppol ID you need to route correctly.
Go directly to the search page
Go to directory.peppol.eu and enter the company name, VAT number, or Peppol ID.
How do you use the results?
1. Check whether the name and country match your customer or supplier.
2. Make a note of the Participant ID (Peppol ID) and the supported document types.
3. Can't find the recipient? Report it via peppol@dsoft.be; we will arrange the onboarding and SMP registration.
In our DocFlows/DocTrails implementation, we automate this lookup in your ERP or invoicing software, so that when you send a document, you immediately address the correct recipient and have fewer errors in the 4-corner model.

Peppol explained: from Access Point to e-invoice
A Peppol Access Point acts as the intermediary between companies, governments and the Peppol network. It ensures that documents, such as invoices, can be sent and received securely and in a standardized format (such as UBL or CII). Read more about D Soft as a Peppol Access Point.
A Peppol Service Metadata Publisher (SMP) is a registry that manages the address information of receivers on the Peppol network. This registry indicates which Access Point is being used and which messages can be received. An SMP is essential for companies that receive documents through Peppol. The Service Metadata Locator (SML) is the key to dynamic participant discovery in the Peppol network. It ensures that the network remains scalable without requiring central management for an ever-increasing number of participants.
An SMP (Peppol Service Metadata Publisher ) is necessary for organizations that want to receive documents through Peppol. For companies that only send, a Peppol Access Point is sufficient. The SMP is also required to receive status messages when sending documents over the network.
The 4-corner model forms the basis of the Peppol network. In it, senders and receivers of documents communicate through service providers accredited by Peppol. This model provides a standardized way of communicating, allowing documents to be exchanged easily and securely.
The 5-corner model extends the 4-corner model by adding a fifth party: often a tax authority. This party adds an additional layer of compliance, allowing tax authorities to monitor transactions more efficiently and better prevent tax evasion.
Peppol invoices are electronic invoices sent and received through the Peppol network. They are prepared in a standardized format (UBL), which ensures automated, error-free processing and a significant reduction in administrative burden.

In Belgium, there are only a limited number of organizations that offer a Peppol Service Metadata Publisher (SMP). An SMP is an essential part of the Peppol network and ensures that companies and governments can find each other and exchange electronic documents, such as e-invoices and purchase orders.
D Soft is an official, SMP-certified Peppol provider based in Flanders, Belgium.
We offer a fully managed SMP solution for companies, software suppliers, and government agencies that want to connect to the Peppol network.
